Barbara Kasten, a month-long residency at S. R. Crown Hall
The Mies van der Rohe Society hosted a conversation between Artist Barbara Kasten (Bortolami, New York) and curator Alex Klein on July 22. Kasten was in residence at S.R. Crown Hall at the IIT College of Architecture throughout the month of July. Barbara looked at Crown Hall through yet another lens this month for the Architecture Artist Residency inaugural annual program at IIT.
Kasten told Leslie Hewitt during an interview with BOMB magazine in 2015; “Architecture really becomes part of the piece. This is a revolving exchange of surfaces and form between the objects and the architecture. It questions the identity of each and offers a new combination of both.” It will be interesting to see how she compresses this study -to a 2 dimensional back to a body of work- through photography.
