Biliana Voutchkova and Michael Thieke have worked together intensively within (and in between) both compositional and improvisational methods since 2011, presenting their work in various festivals/concert series in Europe (Austria, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Serbia and Bulgaria). They released their first album "Already there" on the Swiss label Flexion records. The music of the duo focuses on the detail in music, micro tonality, and slowly moving soundscapes - chiseled beauty and expressive communication. Emerging from experimental and improvisational practices, it’s a virtuosity that puts a lens on the particles of sound within sounds. And through deconstruction of (traditionally conceived) instrumental tone, these granulated particles of sound became the material of a whole new world of music being created on the same old instruments.

Biliana Voutchkova studied classical violin, and she developed a strong interest in contemporary composed and improvised music in college. Since then, she has been active in both fields. Her work spans a wide possible range of music and sound. In recent years Biliana started working intensively with dancers and expanded her interest into instant composition of sound and movement, co-founded her group Grapeshade, and developed the idea of OSM - open sound & movement collective.

The Berlin-based clarinetist/composer/performer Michael Thieke is equally at home across a broad range of musical environments, such as experimental song forms, collectively composing projects, improvising collectives, and music on the fringes of jazz. He is exploring the minutiae of sound with a particular interest in microtonality and related sound phenomena. He has performed across Europe, China, Canada, Lebanon, Japan and the USA, and his work has been documented on over 40 releases.
