Prior to establishing Weiss Architects, he was a principal at Solomon Cordwell Buenz, and senior associate at Booth Hansen.

Weiss was elected a fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 1995 and has received many awards for both his architectural design work, and service to the profession. In addition to his design practice, he speaks regularly around the country about the construction industry and practice of architecture.

Weiss is an Illinois Institute of Technology alumnus and dedicated member of the community. He served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors and was board chair for the Mies van der Rohe Society. Weiss is a tremendous supporter of College of Architecture; mentoring students and hiring them for his company. His published works promote modernists theory, explore the influence of Illinois Tech in his work, as well as the synthesis of architecture and technology.
