Mies’ 139th Birthday Cocktail Party

  • The Arts Club of Chicago 201 East Ontario Street Chicago, IL, 60611 United States (map)

Celebrate Mies van der Rohe‘s 139th birthday with the Mies Society! Join our co-hosts, Zurich Esposito and Alex Krikhaar, (ARCH ’91, MAS ’94) and the Mies Society hosts for our much-anticipated annual event. On Wednesday, March 19, a festive cocktail party will be held at the Arts Club of Chicago emphasizing Mies’ love for art both as a patron, collector, and an aesthete who utilized modern art in his drawings and inspiration for his architecture. This will be a particularly poignant event as we also honor longtime gallery owner, Rhona Hoffman, who has connected Chicago to the art world for decades. Enjoy a special performance by David Taylor, assistant concertmaster of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The evening will culminate in a “toast” to Mies, an annual birthday tradition by his grandson, Trustee Emeritus Dirk Lohan. Cake will be served!

Mies Society has raised funds to preserve our Mies-designed buildings and campus. Our current project on Tech North—located at 3410 S. State Street—is undergoing a design evaluation process to determine the scope and extent of work needed for the building’s exterior and facades. You can learn more and contribute to this facade restoration here.

Looking to make an impact? Giving funds to the Mies Society is an exciting way to contribute to our mission of preserving the legacy, buildings, and campus at Illinois Tech. You can make your impact here.
