“By forming the roof surface like a folded plate with each of the folds being hypars, we can readily achieve the best of both worlds, lightness of a membrane structure and simplicity of a folded plate structure.”

“Srinivasan conducted an extensive study of football and baseball stadiums in the United States and elsewhere. He concluded that ideal seating layouts for both sports cannot be achieved in a single facility. (This question has been endlessly debated pro and con.) To replace Chicago’s Comiskey Park, a project under consideration at the time, Srinivasan proposed a double stadium complex with shared infrastructure and a shared roof system. A 45,000-seat baseball stadium and a 75,000-seat combined football/soccer stadium are aligned under a pair of elevated tracks that allows a long-span moveable roof to cover one field or to be parked between them. A stressed skin hyperbolic paraboloid roof was selected for the covering.” (Windhorst 2010)
