On July 22, 2018, The Mies van der Rohe Society hosted a conversation between Chicago-based artist,  Barbara Kasten (Bortolami, New York), and Alex Klein, The Dorothy and Stephen R. Weber (CHE ‘60) Curator, Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania. They discussed Kasten’s previous works and current residency at S.R. Crown Hall (July 2018) which houses Illinois Institute of Technology College of Architecture.

Kasten created a two-dimensional body of work of her sculptures in Crown Hall by taking a photographic series. Kasten told Leslie Hewitt in an interview in BOMB Magazine (2015), “Architecture really becomes part of the piece. This is a revolving exchange of surfaces and form between the objects and the architecture. It questions the identity of each and offers a new combination of both.”
